Mural for the Sphinxkwartier

Fitting entrance for Sphinxkwartier by artist Collin van der Sluijs

Mural on the border of the Sphinxkwartier and Frontenpark

At the intersection Boschstraat/Frontensingel in Maastricht, you find a characteristic white former residential building. The white façade of this residence next to the new build of the Muziekgieterij is now adorned by a “mural” by artist Collin van der Sluijs. Paintwork started during the first week of April 2020. The mural provides the industrial and rugged Sphinxkwartier with a contemporary entrance that matches the cultural ambitions.

In-between Frontenpark and Sphinxkwartier

The mural by Collin van der Sluijs marks the transition from the cultural Sphinxkwartier to the rugged nature of the Frontenpark. In the first week of april 2020 Collin applied a large mural of a colourful Song Thrush on the white façade. The mural is framed by smaller elements that reach back to the Frontenpark and the industrial past of the Sphinxfactories.

Working safely for Collin and Jorn

Collin van der Sluijs joined forces with Jorn Gruijters (Maastricht Streetart). Collin and Jorn divided their tasks by strict planning to ensure that the work on the new mural was carried out safely, in accordance with regulations to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
